Mind Your Posture (Part 2)

What's the latest technology in Spinal Postural Rehab?
For children who already appear to be physically disfigured, there are methods and technology available to correct bad posture, whether it's hunching, scoliosis or even Scheurmann's disease.
Hope lies in re-education
Re-education of proper ergonomics in children and adults allow long-term correction and healthier backs. Protocols have been derived from ongoing studies and research from the US and Europe and have been around for the last ten years. The rehab protocol invention has revolutionized spinal therapy and given hope to many anxious and depressed sufferers.
The importance of comparative X-ray studies (before and after rehab) is important for objective measurements. The remoulding process of spinal structures will normally take at least three months as research stresses the importance of time in the retraining of connective tissues.
Tips for parents
As parents, the least we can do is to supply a good study area at home for our children. And by starting early, you are assisting in reducing the percentage of potential back sufferers in adult life. The same rules that apply to sitting in front of computers should be applied in schools and homes and should include inclining desktops, adjustable chairs and tables.
Apart from encouraging children to practice living a more active lifestyle, aprents should provide a good study area at home and address certain issues, such as:
  • Chairs - use adjustable tilting chairs or rubber gym balls to sit on
  • Tables - use desks which have adjustable heights and can be inclined for reading or writing
  • Check your child's physical development regularly
